COMING IN 2024:
ALL AGES, WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE, PLAYGROUND FOR EVERY ONE!
As Pekin First prepared to resurface its parking lot, it was determined that part of the area would need to be left permeable to rain water per the city planner. Thinking about this space that might remain unused, a group of church members started to dream about utilizing the space for a playground. The group developed a few goals: 1.) Create an inclusive playground unlike anything else in Pekin. 2.) Provide a communal space for church members and the surrounding community to use. 3.) Include an outdoor eating/seating space for church activities and rental opportunities.
After doing some research, a company was found that sells unique, handicapped accessible playground equipment! It is more expensive to purchase this type of equipment, but it is important that this space be inclusive to all children of varying abilities. This space will provide wheelchair accessible play equipment that is not available at any other public park in Pekin and also a wheelchair accessible eating space! We hope this playground will also be a tool to attract additional neighbors and community members to engage with the church.
The new playground will allow the love of Jesus to flow to EVERY ONE because the equipment is designed to be accessible to EVERY ONE of any ability! Children in wheelchairs, or with otherwise limiting physical conditions, will no longer have to watch as other children play because they’ll be able to join others on the playground at Pekin First! Also, parents who may be in a wheelchair can participate with their children on the equipment rather than just observe.

TOTAL ESTIMATED COST INCLUDES:
We-Go-Round ($32,000) , We-Saw ($12,000), Tables, Benches, Garbage Cans, Shelter, Electricity, Sidewalks, Dirt/Mulch/Grass/Bushes, Landscape Designer, Lighting, Fence, Security Cameras, Permits.
The estimated cost does NOT include the "Hedra" which is an additional cost of $50,000.
